Flad Architects partners with scientists working in the advanced energy arena and has a strong track record in this regard. It has teamed up with international leaders in biofuels research to develop platforms for discovery and has sustainably designed spaces that make new discoveries possible.

Recent designs include:

* New York State Department of Environmental Conservation — Alternative Fuel Vehicle Research Laboratory (AFVRL). Alternative fuel vehicle research lab testing alternative fuels and greenhouse gas reduction technologies in a wide variety of combustion engines?. This facility is designed to LEED Platinum certification.
* Stony Brook University — Advanced Energy Research and Technology. Academic and industrial interdisciplinary research facility where investigators will evaluate emerging technologies, develop accurate simulation models of power distribution systems, and communicate energy policy and emerging technologies to the public. This facility is designed to LEED Platinum certification.
* National Renewable Energy Laboratory NREL — Integrated Biorefinery Research Facility?. The Biorefinery research facility is being used to develop ethanol from cellulosic biomass? and allow scientists to develop feedstock assembly technologies for large-scale cellulosic ethanol manufacturing.
* Confidential Client – Energy Research and Development Laboratory. Biomass conversion research as well as development of other renewable energy technologies.
* USDA Forest Products Laboratory? — Bio Energy Pilot Plant. This is an R&D laboratory for scientists evaluating technologies for the commercially viable conversion of biomass into fuels.
* University of Wisconsin — Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative. This site conducts biomass research centered around the conversion of plant biomass? to ethanol in order to decrease dependence on fossil fuels.

For over 80 years, Flad Architects has understood that with the right tools, people can accomplish great things. The company argues that well-designed work spaces are more likely to facilitate discoveries and innovation by the people working there.
