Environmental Defense Fund
The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is a United States–based nonprofit environmental advocacy group that works on issues including global warming, ecosystem restoration, oceans, and human health. It is nonpartisan, and its work often advocates market-based solutions to environmental problems. The Biofuels Center of North Carolina has partnered with the Environmental Defense Fund to draft a framework for the responsible economic use of biomass--a strategic resource in the state. The EDF and the Biofuels Center both recognize that shifting from a fossil-fuel-based economy to one based on renewable resources presents opportunities as well as cautions. Production and use of biomass resources across North Carolina that is ecologically and economically sustainable is the shared goal.
