Clean Burn Fuels LLC

Clean Burn Fuels LLC was the first plant to produce ethanol in the state of North Carolina.

Clean Burn Fuels began site work on December 20, 2007. It is the largest ethanol plant on the East Coast, capable of producing 60 million gallons per year (MGY). The plant was built in Dundarrach, about three miles southeast of Raeford, NC. It is a corn ethanol facility.

In 2011 Clean Burn Fuels temporarily shut down production because of the difference between corn price increases relative to the slower growth in the price of ethanol, creating cash-flow difficulties, according to a statement released by the company. The company has entered Chapter 11 and hopes to reorganize and resume production under a new operating plan later in 2011.
