Central Carolina Community College, or CCCC, offers an associate degree in Alternative Energy Technology: Biofuels. Students in this program are being educated and trained to have the skills sets required for a career in the biofuels industry.

The Biofuels Center of North Carolina provided CCCC with a grant to construct a training facility at the college's campus in Pittsboro, NC. The facility allows instructors and students to utilize a wide variety of biofuels production methods as they prepare people for jobs in the state's biofuels industry. Curricula developed for the production laboratory is available to all 58 of North Carolina's community colleges, allowing for rapid, yet strategic, growth of workforce development across the state. The production laboratory is capable of producing both biodiesel and ethanol from various feedstocks at small scale. The plant has been designed to be feedstock versatile to suit training needs. The facility includes oilseed crushing and filtration equipment. The fuel produced in the lab is used to run college equipment.
