Bioenergy Engineering Conference

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers ASABE, the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE?, BBI International, and 25x’25?, in partnership with peer engineering and professional organizations, are partnering on the first comprehensive multi-disciplinary International Bioenergy Engineering Conference 2009. The conference provides professional education for engineering in the biofuels and bioenergy systems from feedstocks production and pretreatment?, through conversion, processing, distribution and use. The agenda will offer a multifaceted forum for the exchange of ideas, dissemination of knowledge, and the pursuit of initiatives to address the ever-changing societal, economic and political constraints that influence design.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Henry Petroski, the Aleksandar S. Vesic Professor of Civil Engineering at Duke University, will open the conference with a keynote address. Petroski has published numerous books on success and failure in engineering design, including To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design, and he is the writer and presenter of the BBC and PBS television documentary, To Engineer Is Human?.

AGENDA

The agenda will offer 6 half day focused workshops and 20 technical sessions throughout the conference covering a broad range of topics including:
  • Technologies for Harvest, Collection, and Storage of Agricultural Biomass
  • Biochemical Conversion of Biomass to Energy
  • Advances in Energy Production from Algae
  • Modeling Approaches for Assembling Bioenergy Supply Chains
  • Thermochemical Process Engineering
  • Technologies for Harvest and Collection of Woody Biomass
  • Life-Cycle Analysis for Bioenergy Production
  • Modeling Approaches for Evaluating Bioenergy Supply Chains
  • Anaerobic Digestion of Farm Waste
  • Development of Feedstock Preprocessing and Densification
  • Woody Biomass Conversion
  • Bioconversion Process Engineering
  • Challenges in Commercialization of Bioenergy Facilities
  • Biomass Pelletization and Briquetting
In addition, high-level panel discussions will cover emerging technologies as well as the political influences and impacts on bioenergy engineering.
