Algenol Biofuels Inc

Algenol is an Industrial Biotechnology Company commercializing the use of hybrid? algae to make ethanol, and high-value organic green-chemicals directly from carbon dioxide, water and sunlight.

Direct to ethanol technology? was first conceived by Paul Woods in 1984 while he was a genetics student at the University of Western Ontario. Over the next decade Mr. Woods collaborated with Dr. John Coleman at the University of Toronto to demonstrate proof-of-principle in the laboratory, culminating in scientific publication of their results in Applied and Environmental Microbiology in 1999. During this period Mr. Woods built a career in the natural gas business, founding two companies. Mr. Woods then teamed up with biotechnology entrepreneurs Mr. Ed Legere, Mr. Alejandro Gonzalez and Dr. Craig R. Smith, to found Algenol.
