Alcohol

A general class of hydrocarbons that contain a hydroxyl group (OH). The term "alcohol" is often used interchangeably with the term "ethanol," even though there are many types of alcohol. (See Butanol, Ethanol, Methanol.) Because it is a requirement by the federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms - ATF - for ethanol being produced for use in vehicles to be immediately denatured, alcohols produced for blending into gasoline are called fuel alcohol? to differentiate the substance from alcohol produced for human consumption.
