API

The API is an abbreviation for the American Petroleum Institute, which is a policy and lobbying organization representing the fossil fuel sectors of oil and natural gas. API says it is the only national trade organization representing the entire oil and natural gas industry. It says it has nearly 400 members, including large oil and natural gas companies and smaller independents. Its membership includes producers, refiners, suppliers, pipeline operators and marine transporters. The organization often works together with the NPRA.
